While we were striving to make an RPG similar to the GameBoy games, we've made several changes in hopes of making it more interesting/realistic.

One of the main things is that Pokemon can learn more than four attacks. This came more out of the TV show than anything else, but it kinda sucks only getting four moves and we don't think Pokemon are so dumb they can only learn four moves.

You can also carry as many Pokemon as you like with you. When you battle, you set a number of how many Pokemon you battle with.

HM moves are non-existent. If you have a large Pokemon with wings, you can fly. If you have a water type, you can surf. Seems like those things should be natural abilities anyway. They can't be used in battle, however (seriously, where does all that water to use surf come from?).

Gyms do not need to have a specific type they specialize in. Instead, they just need a theme of some sort. It could be a type, but it could also be high attack power, special attacks, or any common uniting theme.

You may have also noticed there are nine gyms instead of the usual eight. Mostly, we thought nine was a better number than eight, but since we're doing themes instead of types, it gives us one more to use as we now of a much wider variety of gyms we can have.

We're also skipping the whole "Professor giving a Pokemon" thing. On other RPs, it seemed pretty useless, so we cut that step out here. Instead, you just go to the Getting Started thread and follow instructions there.

Instead of counting experience points, we have a percentage to the next level. So if your Pokemon says it's 5%, its got a long way to go. If its 90%, you're almost there. You can gain experience by battling, but there are other ways as well. Spending time with your Pokemon, letting your Pokemon watch battles, training your Pokemon, and winning competitions can all help your Pokemon gain experience. Some methods add very little experience, and while they work well at lower levels, they do not at higher ones.

When breeding, it will not necessarily be the same species as whatever the female is. It is more common to have the same species as the mother, though. Also, legendaries can breed. This is far more difficult than breeding normal Pokemon, and most legendary eggs never hatch. If they do, they take a long time. We want to make it possible for any dedicated player to be able to get a legendary, and this seems like a good way to get them out there without having to make them appear all the freaking time.

We are willing to change any of these things based on the desires of the players. If enough people really want something we've taken out added, we'll work with that. Or if there's something else anyone wants on this game, we can do that as well. Just post over in the Suggestions board if you want something new or different.

One more thing - your character doesn't have to be human. Please make your character at least humanoid, but other than that, whatever. Do what you want. Except no sparkly vampires. Vampires are okay. Sparkly ones are not.
